Date: 2020-01-08 until 2020-01-08

Speakers: Associate Professor Datin Dr Ramani Sankaran Nair
Synopsis:

 MEDICINE AND YOGA.

Yoga has become very popular in today`s busy society.

How does Yoga work?

Yoga boosts brain chemicals that promote a sense of wellbeing. It increases the levels of GABA, serotonin and dopamine- the happy chemicals- which are responsible for feelings of relaxation and contentment.

In Medicine –these are the neurotransmitters targeted by drugs for medicating moods, such as anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs.

Consistent and committed practice of Yoga has proved to successfully reduce and heal anxiety and depression.

Medicine and Yoga complement each other: - Both are rational, scientific and universal in

Both have strengths and limitations.

The goal of allopathy and Yoga – is total health.

So a good compromise will be an integrated therapy.

Yoga work outs can be classified into three types:-

1)      Postures - these are slow, sustained stretching of the muscles – specific posture for a group of muscles – with their benefits. This differs from working out in the gym – where the stretching are more rapid movement.

In Yoga you dictate how long, how much you want to stretch

2)      Breathing – it is a well-known fact that most of us breathe shallow- these are a series of simple breathing exercises to expand and ventilate the whole lung.

 3) Hand Mudras - this practice needs more commitment and is not a common practice.

In summary Yoga is a practice that gives total relaxation, increases flexibility, corrects the postures – particularly as one ages - and coming of a session feeling very happy because your neurotransmitters have been released.

Speakers: Dr. Goh Siew Li
Synopsis:

For more info, please contact Farhana / Hafizah at 03-7967 7515 / [email protected]

Workshop Overview:

Meta-analysis is widely used to summarise evidence of primary research (e.g. randomised clinical trials), providing clinicians with objective measurements of treatment effects. It is considered the highest level of evidence to inform healthcare practices. However, the meta-analysis conventionally used in health research provides only partial information because it can compare no more than two treatments in a single analysis. As such, the conventional pair-wise meta-analysis will have limited utility in modern medicine, where health conditions are commonly managed with multiple treatments. Evaluation of each and every treatment available would be time consuming because this exercise will involve iterative pair-wise analysis – i.e. 4 treatments requires 6 separate meta-analyses, and 5 treatments 10 analyses.

At the end of this session, participants should acquire fundamental working knowledge of NMA. The session aims to introduce: i) basic concept and application of NMA; ii) outputs of NMA; and iii) methods of checking the assumptions of NMA and appraising an NMA report.

  • Mengurangkan kesakitan selepas pembedahan
  • Mengurangkan kos
  • Mengurangkan kadar komplikasi yang berkaitan pembiusan penuh
  • Lebih cepat discaj dari unit pemulihan.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Of late there have been calls for credentialing of GPs on procedures conducted in their clinics. The Medical Practitioners Coalition Association of Malaysia (MPCAM) has after much thought, identified a few common orthopaedic conditions which General Practitioners face in their clinics.  This workshop organised by the MPCAM, refreshes our minds on how we can manage these clinical condiitons in our clinics. Lectures and workshop stations have been designed specifically to give confidence to the treating doctors and we hope General Practitioners benefit from this course.
