GUIDELINES – FOR BEREAVEMENT PAYMENT

 

 

1.           Malaysian Medical Association (hereinafter referred to as “MMA”) The scope of coverage and compensation payments are attached herewith for the benefits of the Members.

 

2.           A Resolution was passed during the 63rd Annual General Meeting of MMA, wherein it was unanimously resolved that:

 

a)           Life Member – a sum of RM10,000.00 shall be paid to the deceased’s family.

 

b)           Ordinary Member – a sum of RM5,000.00 shall be paid to the deceased’s family.

 

The House further resolved that the above Resolution will be reviewed in every Three (3) years.

 

3.           Kindly be informed, MMA EXCO have set out Guidelines as below mentioned for Members to file a claim for compensation payment from the Bereavement payment.

 

A)        For swift and expeditious release of payment to the Members and/or the deceased family, it is a MANDATORY requirement for each member to submit a Nominee (a form to be filled up and signed by the member and submitted to MMA) to receive the bereavement payment on his/her behalf. The Member to provide the Nominee’s particulars as follows: –

 

i)              identification Number;

 

ii)             relationship with the member;

 

iii)           contact details; and

 

 iv)      postal address.

 

B)         If for any reason the Nominee predeceases the Member, the Member shall take all reasonable steps to expeditiously inform MMA of the demise of the Nominee and submit a replacement Nominee and MMA will immediately update the records.

 

C)        The Nominee shall notify the MMA of the demise of the Member by submitting a form duly signed by the Nominee and enclose a copy of the Death Certificate duly certified   either by a Commissioner for Oaths or an Advocate & Solicitor together

with the Nominee’s particulars such as copy Identification Card and documents to prove the relationship with the deceased.

 

D)        In the event the Member fails to submit a Nominee to MMA, the bereavement payment may only be released in the following circumstances:

 

                         a)      Death of a Member

 

i)                 If the deceased died intestate (no will), the Administrator of the deceased Estate upon providing a copy of the Letters of Administration obtained from High Court of Malaysia may collect the compensation or bereavement payment. The Administrator shall forward a copy to MMA following the procedures mentioned above in Para (A).

 

ii)               If the deceased died testate (a will) the Executor of the Estate may claim the compensation and the bereavement payment by providing a copy of the Grant of Probate obtained from the High Court Malaya following the procedures stated above in Para (A).

 

a) The Members must bear in mind that the bereavement payment can be processed expeditiously and released in seven (7) working days if the Member take an initiative to submit a Nominee with the required particulars as stated above. Members are cautioned, should you fail to provide details of a Nominee, MMA shall only release the bereavement payment subject to verification or confirmation and authorisation from the next of kin or upon submission of a copy of the Letters of Administration or Grant of Probate which will take about Four (4) to Six (6) months to obtain from the High Court of Malaya.
