1. Medical services in Malaysia are being governed by the Medical Act 1971 and the Medical Regulation 1974. The Act provides the power for the establishment of the Malaysian Medical Council as a corporate entity to regulate the practice of medicine and to ensure that only qualified medical practitioners be registered and allowed to practice medicine.

Arrangement of sections
Section 1. Short title and commencement.
This Act may be cited as the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 and shall come into operation on a date to be appointed by the Minister by notification in the Gazette, and the Minister may appoint different dates for the coming into operation of different provisions of this Act.
