Physician Needs More Time with Their Patients
Physicians need more time with their patients to consider the psychosocial aspects of health problems, according to the President of the World Medical Association Dr. Miguel Jorge.
Speaking at a World Health Organisation meeting in Muscat, Oman on non-communicable diseases and mental health, Dr Jorge said that medical education and training placed a strong emphasis on the biological aspects of diseases and their treatment.

MMA welcomes govt’s decision to deregulate fees for private doctors, dentists
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has welcomed the government’s
decision to deregulate private doctors and dentists’ consultation fees, calling it a bold move.
Its president Dr N. Ganabaskaran said that private practitioners fees have been regulated since
2013, adding that this has become a contentious issue.
He said that this was most felt by general practitioners because the fee gazetted in the 2006 Private
Healthcare Facilities and Services Act (PHFSA) was based on the fee recommended by the MMA in
1992.
Online petition gathers 82,000 signatures
PETALING JAYA: An online petition by the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) against the
government’s decision to do away with the Critical Service Incentive Allowance for new
appointments across the civil service starting next year has gathered more than 75,000 signatures in
less than 48 hours.
Launched on Tuesday, the petition called for the reinstatement of the allowance to all healthcare
professionals, namely nurses, medical assistants, pharmacists, dentists and doctors.
